I grew up in Chicago, but spent much of my childhood in the beautiful state of Arizona. Such an underrated state, Arizona is so much more than cacti and tumbleweed. Whenever we’re flying to California, Nevada, or any surrounding states, we always try to make a layover there so we can enjoy the warm sun, Pueblo inspired archeitecure, and feast on some (very) delicious tacos.
24 Hours in Scottsdale and Phoenix.
WHERE TO STAY:
The best place to stay if you’re looking for 24 hours of relaxation and fun is the Andaz Scottsdale Resort & Spa. Every corner of this place is so unique and beautiful; from the luxury pool and trendy lobby, to the spaciious rooms and delicious restaurants, it’s sure to make your list of places to stay again.
WHAT TO EAT:
LUNCH: Head over to Old Town Scottsdale, where you’ll find some of the cutest (and most delicious) restaurants in town!
A healthy and light option is The Original Chop Shop; their colorful and healthy plates will give you the energy to explore all day.
DINNER: A must stop is Diego Pops. Besides the totally instagram worthy interior design, the food is incredible! Grab some tacos, the brusselsprout nachos, and guava coconut cocktail (and yes, it does come in an actual mini coconut).
DESSERT: Get your sugar fix at Fatty Daddy’s. There’s really no need to go into detail here, you just have to go. Between the macaroon ice cream sandwich, house made gelato, and freshly made pastries, you’ll reach a new level of sugar high you never thought was possible.
WHAT TO DO:
If your looking to spend some time in Phoenix, park around the DeSoto Central Market. It’s a beautiful budiling with different pop up shops, eats and drinks (there’s even an art gallery upstairs.) After spending some time there, you can continue walking down Roosevelt St. where you can enjoy some of the graffiti art walls and pop into a couple boutiques and exhibits. This area has a great walk score and you can get a little taste of the city for a couple hours.
COFFEE: Just accross the street from DeSoto Market you can find one of the trendiest coffee shops around, Futuro Coffee. Not only do they have an awesome venue, they also have an art exibit, barber shop, and hair salon inside.
Another thing to do in Arizona is take a hike! There are so many paths and beautiful views to witness, but the most popular is Camelback Mountain. If you’re traveling between September-April, it’s great weather and no humidity so pack you workout gear and enjoy the nature! (And if you don’t get your outdoor fix from that, visit the Desert Botanical Gardens! It’s so beautiful to see the different flowers, cacti, and succulents in the area).
So there it is, a quick trip to Scottsdale & Pheonix that will leave you wanting to come back soon!
