This past month we got to go on one of the most amazing all-inclusive we’ve ever been to (ever). Unico 20º87º has been on our radar for a little over a year since we saw all the articles and reviews on it and now I definitely understand why. Below I’ve shared all our thoughts on the most asked questions about this gorgeous adults only resort. (But you can also click here to see the saved story of our experience on my instagram).
{I’ve even included a promo code here}

Unico isn’t like most all inclusive because they think about your whole experience from beginning to end, not just unlimited food and pool. They have these amazing adult activities every single day; gifted customized hats, classy mezcal tasting, mixology classes, relaxing canvas painting, yoga, spinning, pilates, cooking classes, astrology and wine at night, dance classes, scuba diving lessons, floating poker, sushi making, kayaks 101, art and wine, movie on the lawn, etc etc etc. All of these are included and it makes each day so much more memorable and relaxing. Instead of just laying at the pool morning to night we were able to have all these little dates and it was honestly so special for us, especially since it had been months since we were so present and relaxed together.

The rooms are exceptional here. Clean, so spacious, and every single decor piece is design perfectly (There’s even a bath tub on your balcony). Because most all-inclusive resorts are extremely outdated, this is the first one where we WANTED to spend time in the room. Most days we came back from the pool and put aside a couple hours to just read, talk, and relax before we made our way to dinner.

The grounds at Unico are a little piece of paradise. There’s so many palm trees, foliage, flowers, I mean, it’s just breathtaking walking around and taking it all in. The resort has 4 separate beautiful pools. The first one closest to the beach is the music and louder pool, it has a swim up bar, activities happening all day, and is filled with people that are having the best time. Right on the side is a another pool a couple stairs up. It’s so pretty, especially to watch the sunset from. It’s surrounded by cabanas and even chairs that are in the pool. The third pool is closest to the lobby, Mathieu called it the Fomo pool. It’s right next to the activity/ music pool so your able to see what happening, hear the music, but still have it be a little quieter. It’s also right next to the beautiful bar and sit down area where they do mixology classes and tastings. And just a short minute walk away there is the quiet pool. Exactly like it’s named, this pool is for relaxing. It has a swim up bar, hot tub, and plenty of chairs in and out of the water to just read, nap, and enjoy the sun. And finally the beach, where we watched the sun set every single night of our vacation (sunsets in Mexico are honestly the most beautiful – sorry Santorini). I’ll put a disclaimer here that there is of course seaweed on the beach- it has be on all the island and the east coast of Mexico for years now and unfortunately because of global warming, it’s here to stay. The good news is that it’s only a couple feet wide where the beach meets the water and after that the water is so beautiful and clear. We spent plenty of time in the beach and really loved it still.

As you can already tell, this isn’t your average all inclusive, it’s not even the luxury all inclusive most people are use to- it’s a good amount more. The food and drinks were incredible. Every.Single.Thing. From the french inspired cafe (that had coconut milk, oat milk, and almond milk as an alternative), to the restaurants at night, to even the room service and pool food that you can order directly to your chair through the app, every single thing we tasted was amazing. They make everything gourmet and the presentation is stunning since they pay such close attention to detail.And their locally sourced ingredients still give you such diverse option, which is what blew me away. I had the best pizza and pad Thai I ever had in my life here (no joke folks, we went to the asian fusion restaurant 3 times in 5 days…). Our schedule for everyday food went a little bit like this : breakfast at restaurant 20.87 (their chef would make us personal vegan plates every time because they knew our dietary restrictions- I was blow away over and over again with what they created), for lunch we would either order food directly to our chair, make a custom pizza at their wood fire pop up, or get fresh sandwiches/salads at Cafe Inez. For dinner our options were Mi Carisa, “a love letter to the romantic coastlines and flavors of the Mediterranean”, Cueva Siete, “aiming to harness the mysticism and reverence of Mayan culture which is deeply rooted in our Mexican flavors,” and lastly my favorite Mura House “Asian cuisine guided by three principles- flavor, precision, and quality of ingredients through traditional fusion.” Each of these restaurants paid such close attention to not only food but service, dietary restrictions, and even every piece of unique decor. I don’t think there’s been one day since we left where we haven’t mentioned how much we miss the food.

The holistic fitness program at Unico is created to be adaptable to your regular routine. Mathieu and I had so much fun in all of their classes. Each day it’s something different (you can check on your app or just stop in). To give you a better idea of what they offer daily besides their large and modern gym, we did spinning classes, functional training, floating yoga, pilates, and a core class while we were there. They offer 2-3 per day plus a morning walk. The teachers were amazing and paid attention to each of us, asking about our personal health journey, helping our form, and creating unique exercise alternatives for the things we couldn’t do (for example I still have lower back pain from Joshuas birth). It was so nice to work out during our trip because usually we find that hotels only have a little room of just a couple elliptical or water aerobics mid day. Each of these classes pushed us and were run by certified trainers. Mathieu and I were so thankful to fit wellness into our trip. Besides the gym we also got pampered like no other at their all inclusive spa (yes you read that right). The hotel includes 12 spa treatments per room and you only pay a 25% service tax. We did massages, facials, nails, Mathieu did his hair, I mean really this spa was way better than the (really) expensive luxury spas I’ve been to in Toronto. Just being able to do self care without the crazy price tag all other hotels attach to their treatments makes this resort the first of its kind. I can honestly say this is the only truly ALL inclusive resort I’ve ever been to or heard about.

Besides every single aspect of this hotel being above and beyond anything we’ve experience before they also have the best service. In general we always vacation in Mexico because it’s incomparable to the other islands. Mexicans ae some of the most genuine, sweet, respectful and hardworking people i’ve ever met. I’ve been drawn to their culture and their warm hearts since I was a little girl and anytime we go anywhere else I can’t help but compare how different it is than Mexico. If anyone ever asks us where to go on a trip my first response in seconds is to choose Mexico- always. With that being said, this hotel went even further than impeccable service and created a Unico app. In this app you could check every single activity, the weather, every restaurant and their menu, make reservations, check the spa and gym menu, and contact them personally. It was so easy just being able to order food from our phone or see what activities were happening instead of the usual vacation where we seem to miss everything or not know about certain features until we’re about to leave. Besides the app they also have someone available to talk to you 24 hours on WhatsApp. They delivered us more toothpaste within minutes, answered about dress codes right away, I mean seriously- our host was their anytime of the day to chat and help. They were so attentive and sweet I was blown away.
So thats it guys 🙂 My inbox was flooded with questions and I hope I was able to answer them all! If you want to see much more footage of our experience you can click here for my saved story on Instagram. You can also follow this link to get a discount off your hotel stay!
